Course Overview

This course is designed for those who want to learn how to analyze data using Microsoft Excel, from data entry basics, cleaning up data for analysis and organization and advanced analysis without complex formulas or functions.

 

With this self-paced program, you have the ability to learn at your own pace but also have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in a live Q&A session with Donna Hanson in the last week.  

 

Whether you are familiar with Excel or looking to build on your current skills, this comprehensive program with live coaching will provide you with all you need to know to succeed with analyzing data in Excel.


Break-Down of Learning

The program is divided into four weekly modules, each of which covers a specific component of data analysis in Microsoft Excel.  Complete one each week or do all at once, depending on how you prefer to learn.

Week 1 - Data Set Up & Clean Up

In week 1 we begin with the basics, including data clean up, formatting, and organization. 

Week 2 - Data Analysis

In week 2, you will progress to topics such as sorting and filtering and conditional formatting. 

Week 3 - Graphical Tools for Summarizing Data

In week three we learn how to create dynamic dashboards using inbuilt Excel tools and features to simplify the data analysis process.

Week 4 - Automation

Finally in week four we explore how to potentially automate some, or all, of the process to create HUGE productivity gains! 

Throughout the program, you will have access to :


  • Video how to tips on each topic covered,
  • A downloadable reference booklet
  • Exercise file so you can practice as you go 
  • Access to a Q&A sheet enabling you to log your questions for Donna to answer in the live coaching call. 


The simple and easy to understand videos will help you build confidence and embed the skills you need to succeed.

 

In addition, the program includes:

1 x 60 minute live group coaching call to answer any questions at the end of week four.  The group coaching session will be recorded and available for you to revisit, along with the course resources for 365 days from the start of the program, enabling you to embed your learnings. 

 

Upon completion of the course content, you will be able to download a certificate of completion, which you can use to support your participation in the program.

NOTE: It doesn't matter what version of Microsoft Excel you are using, however earlier versions of Excel may not have access to some of the graphical items to assist in creating simple dashboards!

Week 1 - Data Set Up & Clean Up

During the first week, I'm going to take you through some Excel basics to ensure you understand how Excel likes data set up.  Whilst this may seem basic, understanding these tools and how Excel works is vital if you want to successfully analyze data in Excel.

This week is all about laying the foundational elements of your data so that we can move to the next step of data analysis.

  • Understand what can happen to data when it is imported into Excel that can impact on analysis
  • How to trouble shoot imported data to enable easy analysis
  • A range of tools to alter, edit and fix imported data to make analysis easier.

Week 2 - Data Analysis

In Week 2, I'm going to help you understand how to easily analysis your data set in Microsoft Excel without using complex formulas or functions.


I'm going to teach you "hacks" that will help you get better results faster when you analyze data in Excel which will increase your confidence in the data you produce AND unlock time to spend on other tasks.

By the end of this week, you will know how to clean up your data and perform a range of common data analysis tasks.

  • How to sort data with a few clicks
  • How to sort data by multiple criteria in one step
  • How to highlight data that meets a particular criteria
  • How to easily subtotal your data set without the need to use or learn complex functions.

Week 3 - Graphical Tools for Summarizing Data

In Week 3, I'm going to guide you through a range of tools and features within Microsoft Excel to enable you to present professional graphical dashboards to make analyzing your data fast and easy.


I'm going to teach you how to leverage Excel's inbuilt tools and features to enable you to present AMAZING dashboards for easy access and analysis of your information for your own use or to share with others.

By the end of this week, you will know how to clean up your data, perform a range of common data analysis tasks AND be able to present the results in the form of graphical dashboards that can be adjusted to meet your needs.


What you will learn:

  • What is a pivot table
  • Multiple ways to create pivot table leveraging Excel's inbuilt tools
  • How to modify a pivot table
  • How to change the formatting of a pivot table
  • How to update a pivot table
  • How to create pivot charts
  • How to create slicers and timelines to further analyze data.

Week 4 - Automation

In Week 4, we will take all we have learnt in the past three weeks to explore whether all or part of your data process can be automated to reduce time and risk when analyzing data.


I'm going to teach you how to create simple macros that can help you get automate not just this process but  potentially other repetitive tasks in Excel.  

This week requires you to think about what you do in your LIVE worksheets and how you might be able to leverage what you have learnt to your own environment. 

By the end of this week, you will know how to clean up your data, perform a range of common data analysis tasks, create professional looking graphical dashboards to analyze data and potentially be able to automate some or all of the process.

  • What a macro is
  • How a macro works
  • How to create a macro without using Visual Basic code
  • How to create a keyboard shortcut so your macro is available at the touch of a button.

It is delivered live and addresses both questions answered in the Q&A sheet as well as the opportunity for those attending to ask questions.

The group coaching call is recorded and uploaded into the course.  It is available for review until the end of the program's 12 month period so you can revisit it anytime.
